The Somaliland Red Crescent Society (SRCS) is seeking a qualified and committed PLW Auxiliary Nurse to support nutrition and maternal health services at Habasha Clinic in Badhan Sub-Branch Office, Sanaag Region. The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying, monitoring, and supporting pregnant and lactating women (PLWs) and children under five who are at risk of or suffering from malnutrition.
The Auxiliary Nurse will be responsible for conducting nutritional screening and assessment of children under five years old using MUAC measurements, weight, height, and oedema checks to monitor growth and identify cases of malnutrition. The role also includes screening pregnant and lactating women using MUAC measurements to detect cases of moderate acute malnutrition and ensure appropriate referral and treatment through the Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme (TSFP).
The position involves maintaining accurate patient records and documentation, including registration of children and mothers, clinical records, and nutrition cards. The Auxiliary Nurse will ensure that all activities follow the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) protocol, ensuring proper admission and discharge criteria are applied during case management.
In addition, the nurse will provide health and nutrition education to pregnant and lactating mothers. Topics include proper hygiene practices, exclusive breastfeeding, the appropriate introduction of complementary feeding, and the importance of continuing breastfeeding up to two years of age. The position also requires conducting home visits to follow up on discharged patients, ensuring continued recovery and support within the community.
Operational responsibilities include contributing to the implementation and evaluation of outpatient health programs, participating in emergency preparedness and rapid health assessments, and supporting emergency response activities when necessary. The Auxiliary Nurse will also help identify capacity-building needs among auxiliary and volunteer nursing teams and support training initiatives to strengthen health program delivery.
The successful candidate will also support SRCS in strengthening partnerships with local authorities, community leaders, and health stakeholders to promote maternal and child health services. The role may involve representing SRCS in community meetings, workshops, and health coordination forums.
This position is offered on a one-year contract with the possibility of extension, depending on performance and funding availability. The candidate must be willing to work in challenging environments and travel within the Sanaag region when required.
