An international humanitarian organization is seeking a qualified Community Health Officer (CHO) to support community-based health and nutrition services in Kismayo, Somalia. The role focuses on supervising Community Health Workers (CHWs), supporting integrated community case management (iCCM/iCCM+), and strengthening healthcare delivery at community level.
The successful candidate will work closely with health facilities, outreach teams, community leaders, and Ministry of Health representatives to improve healthcare access and treatment services for vulnerable communities, especially children under five years of age.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise iCCM supervisors and Community Health Workers (CHWs).
- Support delivery of integrated community health and nutrition services.
- Monitor treatment and referral services for childhood illnesses such as pneumonia and diarrhoea.
- Conduct field supervision visits and provide mentoring and technical support to CHWs.
- Ensure timely data collection, reporting, and monitoring of project activities.
- Coordinate community mobilisation, health awareness, and sensitisation activities.
- Support medicine and supply management for community health programmes.
- Work closely with health facilities, community committees, and local authorities.
- Assist with training sessions, meetings, and health programme implementation.
- Promote gender integration and protection throughout project activities.
Qualifications
- University degree in:
- Community Health
- Nursing
- Public Health
- Medical-related field
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in community health or public health programmes.
- Experience supervising community mobilisation or child health projects.
- Knowledge of iCCM/iCCM+ programming and Ministry of Health systems.
- Strong reporting, training, and team supervision skills.
- Experience conducting health assessments and analysing results.
- Good computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in Somali and English is required.
- Candidate must be based in Kismayo and familiar with the local context.
