Project Manager – Financial Inclusion & Digital Finance | Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

A leading international humanitarian and development organization is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead a large-scale financial inclusion and digital finance programme in Ethiopia. The position is based in Addis Ababa and focuses on expanding Sharia-compliant and digital financial services for vulnerable communities across multiple regions.

The programme aims to strengthen livelihoods, improve financial access, and enhance resilience among women, youth, and rural households through innovative and sustainable financial solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic planning and overall management of the programme.
  • Oversee implementation activities across multiple operational regions.
  • Build partnerships with banks, fintech institutions, MFIs, regulators, and market actors.
  • Support the expansion of digital financial services and Islamic finance initiatives.
  • Ensure programme quality, financial compliance, reporting, and risk management.
  • Supervise programme staff and provide technical guidance.
  • Monitor programme performance, budgets, targets, and implementation progress.
  • Integrate gender inclusion and climate-responsive approaches into programme activities.
  • Support donor reporting, stakeholder coordination, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Work closely with monitoring and evaluation teams to strengthen programme learning and adaptive management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Business
    • Economics
    • Finance
    • Development Studies
    • Social Sciences
    • Or related fields
  • Advanced degree is an added advantage.

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience in:
    • Financial inclusion
    • Digital finance
    • Islamic finance
    • Development programme management
    • Market systems development
  • Experience managing large multi-regional projects and institutional partnerships.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working in fragile or conflict-affected settings is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Sharia-compliant finance and digital financial services is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with monitoring & evaluation systems and adaptive programme management.
  • Strong computer and data management skills including Microsoft Office and digital tools
